We are a small independent, family run firm with the flexibility to provide exactly what you want and the experience to give you all the support you need. We are located in the picturesque village of Lindfield in West Sussex. Ian, Sue, Tracey, Catherine, Chris and Gary all live locally and are very involved in the community in various ways.
At the end of the 1840's George Masters left Ringmer with his family to take up employment with a Mr Gosling and Mr Uridge at their village store in Lindfield High Street. Following the death of one of the partners in 1854, Gosling & Uridge's business was purchased by George Masters. It was the beginning of the family business which is now under the direction of his great great grandson Ian Masters and his wife Sue.
From its beginning as one of the village stores, with many departments including drapery, outfitting, grocery and provisions, wines and spirits, hardware, ironmongery and funeral furnishings, Masters and Son has undergone many changes. In its time the company has also been furniture removers and storers, sellers of new and antique furniture, estate agents and insurance agents. Its advertising slogan was at one time 'From the cradle to the grave'.
Masters and Son have a tradition of supporting local sports clubs. After 10 years supporting one of Lindfield Juniors Football Club teams we have recently been sponsoring the Southdown Football Club U16 team. The club is the oldest established football club in Mid Sussex having originally been formed in 1969 as a Boy Scout football team. The club, which now includes a girls section, forms an important and integral part of the surrounding community.
We are also delighted to continue our sponsorship of Balcombe Cricket Club (photo) and Haywards Heath Town Football Club.
We are pleased to be one of the sponsors of the Lindfield Bowling Club Jubilee Triples Week which takes place annually and attracts visiting teams from about 30 local clubs.
Masters and Son are also the sponsor of the Lindfield Cricket Club Sixes Charity Tournament which is held in August on the Bank Holiday Monday. The money raised at this exciting tournament goes to Orchid, the male cancer charity.
